Cable loading onto the "Durable"

Posted by kroberts in Cable Rollout

The "Durable" is one of two cable ships in the PPC-1 project and will commence laying at Collaroy in Sydney and finish with a final splice just north of Madang in Papua New Guinea. The second cable ship is the "Decisive" and will lay from Guam and stream and end at Madang.

The "Durable" load consists of some 4787.486km of submarine cable, 52 repeaters and four branching units plus lay spares. Space is critical so the cable is packed as efficiently as possible for transport. This video shows the cable being loaded on the vessel. More photos are available in the gallery under Japan.
