Type A Training in the USPosted by kroberts in Technology, Team, Papua New Guinea |

Last week saw Tyco Telecom host representatives from both PPC-1 and Telikom Papua New Guinea for Type A training at their Eatontown Labs. The training covered the make-up and theory of the equipment being installed for PPC-1. The theory was backed up with demonstrations and hands on use of the Tyco Telecom's test bed in the labs. This included the Power Feed Equipment, the Line Terminating Equipment, Tyco Element Management System and the Network Management System.
For all participants the training was viewed extremely positively and the trainer's flexibility and responsiveness to questions was excellent. Apart from fighting off jet-lag the biggest issue was the change in temperature - having left a 30°C -40°C (86°F - 104°F) summer, the temperatures of 0°C to -10°C (32°F to 14°F) plus wind factor came as a shock. For the majority of the TPNG representatives it was the first time they had seen snow.
The team were:
PPC-1 - Matt Whitlock (in the red jacket), John Bradfield (not pictured)
TPNG - (from left) Whybird Pisin, Georgina George, Colin Mileng, Taini Aihi
